The game

This game is a VR horror experience. It was made in 48 hours during the global game jam with the help of one of my friends and the use of some asset packs for the models.

The game revolves around the concept of hide and seek. You are locked inside a dark house with only a flashlight and must find a clown hidden inside before your time is up. The clown laughs when you interact with certain parts of the environment or when you turn of your light. The sound of his laugh is spatialized, helping you find him.

The process

The theme of the game jam was "Make me laugh" and we wanted to turn that idea on its head. Instead of going for a amusing game, we wanted the laugh to be at the expense of the player and create tension through that laugh.
Since we were only 2 in the team we had to be efficient. Neither of us was proficient in 3D modelling so we decided to use some asset packs.

To handle the VR, we integrated the oculus package in the project. I then developed the gameplay and game loop of the game. We integrated spatialized and non spatialized sounds depending on their use and added voice line to provide context to the experience.

Creating the claustrophobic feeling of the house was very interesting and rewarding.
